Oaxifornia
Artisan Made / Social Impact
Since its founding in 2005, Oaxifornia has used play as a catalyst for collaboration and exchange between artisans, designers and artists. Directed by designer Raúl Cabra in colaboration with universities in Mexico and the United States, the project is currently based at the ex-Hacienda de Guadalupe in San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya, Oaxaca. In this space, Oaxifornia broadens creative opportunities for local artisans through multidisciplinary and collaborative work with professionals in visual and creative fields, thereby providing spaces for ancestral traditions to assert themselves in a contemporary world. A "Oaxifornia" object is an artifact that oscillates between worlds, contemporary in form but grounded in traditional techniques and materials. Oaxifornia products can be found in top Mexico City restaurants, including Pujol and Rosetta, as well as numerous hotels in Mexico and California.
